Abseiling Euromast

Back to overview

Where did the idea come from?

In 1995 Height Specialists coordinated the stunts for the Dutch television program Now or Never. Stunts such as jumping of the Hef in Rotterdam, walking over a beam between two buildings and abseiling from the Euromast. The first time abseilen from the Euromast was a great success and although the participant was really scared (because of his fear of heights), Height Specialists and the Euromast decided to make it a summer activity. Since 1995 everyone has the possibility to abseil from the Euromast (100 meters high) in the summer weekends.

See here how the first time abseiling of the Euromast took place:

The Euromast

The Euromast is the icon of Rotterdam. It is the tallest tower (185 meters) in the Netherlands and recognizable in the skyline of Rotterdam. The Euromast is also part of the World Federations of Great Towers (WFGT). These are the 37 most beautiful and highest towers in the world, such as the Eiffel Tower and the Burj Khalifa.

What is abseiling?

Abseiling is descending on a vertical line on ropes. Abseiling is commonly used in climbing as a descent technique when walking around the object is impossible or too time consuming. With a belay- or abseil device one can descent from steep walls or high locations.

From the 2nd of March it is possible to reserve abseil tickets.
