IRATA refresh training

Safety above all with IRATA

An IRATA certificate is valid for three years, but if you haven’t climbed for more than 6 months according to your logbook it is necessary to take a refresh course (otherwise your certificate is not valid). This way you can refresh your IRATA techniques within one day and when you’re finished you can safely work at height according to the IRATA guidelines again.

What are IRATA's requirements?

IRATA level 1
Requirements

IRATA Level 1

This is a fundamental training course covering all aspects of working safely with industrial rope techniques. Upon completion of the training, you will be able to move safely in ropes independently and be aware of the hazards of working with rope access. An IRATA level 1 is under the supervision of an IRATA level 3 supervisor at all times.

  • Experience is not required

  • Minimum age of 18 years

  • Physically and medically fit

IRATA level 2
Requirements

IRATA level 2

The IRATA level 2 training goes into depth on several methods of rigging (attaching the ropes). Multiple techniques and various rescues are also covered during this training. An IRATA level 2, like IRATA level 1 technicians, is at all times under the supervision of an IRATA level 3 supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of level 1 experience required with 1,000 demonstrable practice hours at level 1

  • Physically and medically fit

IRATA level 3
Requirements

[Translate to English:]

IRATA Level 3

The last training is also the most complex and intensive. The training covers rigging and rope protection, as well as safety, leadership and rescue of your team. You will also learn to make risk assessments and rescue plans. As an IRATA level 3 you will be a supervisor after passing the exam. Now you will be responsible for the safety of yourself, the team and third parties. The expectations are high, therefore a lot of experience is required before you can take the level 3 exam:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience at level 2 with 1,000 demonstrable practice hours at level 2

  • First aid certificate

  • Physically and medically fit

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

How long is an IRATA certificate valid?

The IRATA certificate is valid for three years. This certificate is only valid when you have worked with rope access at least once every six months. If you have not climbed for over six months, your certificate expires. In order to have your certificate declared valid again, you can follow a refresh training. This training takes a maximum of one day and depends on whether the trainer feels that you have passed the exercises at your level.

Why take an IRATA refresher training?

An IRATA certificate is valid for three years. This has one exception, if you haven’t climbed for over 6 months according to your logbook, the certificate is no longer valid. The IRATA refresh course is aimed at allowing you to carry out rope access work at height again without having to follow an entire training course.

How does an IRATA refresher training look like?

The duration of a refresher varies per participant. It can take 2 to 3 hours, or a whole day. When the trainer decides that you do the exercises properly at your level (level 1/2/3), the refresh course is completed. It is not necessary to take an exam in order to complete this course.

What do I need to take with me to an IRATA refresher training?

We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing. We ask you to bring safety shoes, ID/passport and, if in possession, IRATA logbook or yellow form. The course material and lunch are included.

Please note:
If you have registered for IRATA level 2 or 3, make sure that the number of required hours in your IRATA logbook is signed off at the start of the training!

Can I take the training course in another language?

Yes, we have Dutch and English speaking trainers.
